10 things you should know about The Simi grey Story

Hey there. First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone that read Techforsaken, the very first Simi Grey Story out in the world (and probably the 27th on my laptop). And a big thank you to everyone who left a review or a comment. Which now that I check belongs to no one because I don’t have any reviews or comments on it.

Anyways, the 3000+ story I published on Tuesday is just a short prequel to the actual novel. And here are 10 things you should know about it.

  1. I struggled with titles. I always struggle with titles. I was originally going to name the short story, The Boy From Harcourt Bay but I didn’t. That would have been nice awesome title. Tell me if you think so down in the comments. I’m also thinking of naming the novel The Tech Kings. I guess that makes sense?

  2. If you’ve read the book, you’ll may actually figure out that the setting is based off of Nigeria. I only made slight changes to the name of the places. As for the name of the country, in the book, I called it the Republic. I was supposed to change it to the Federation of Abuja or the United Niger States or the United States of the Niger but. . .I forgot. So The Republic it is. The Republic of what, though? Which of the names do you like? Drop it in the comments below.

  3. The Republic is not a future Nigeria. The idea of it being set years from now never even crossed my mind. It’s kind of like an alternate Nigeria. Kinda like how Nigeria would be like if there were metahumans and advanced technology.

  4. The 3000+ word book was actually supposed to be chapter 1 of the actual novel. I sat down to write a short story and in the middle of it decided to make it a novel and when I was almost 5000 words in, I stopped. I also realised that chapter 1 had a lot more action than the next chapter and it just ruined the whole vibe of the story. So I cut the first chapter out and made it into a short story. (PS: I don’t actually write in chapters. Just as the spirit leads.)

  5. Simi Grey has been sixteen years old for a long time. When I was younger, I used to write characters that were older than I was and I think I did pretty good. Simi Grey came to me as a sixteen year old when I turned 16 and he has been sixteen years old ever since. He isn’t like my alter ego or anything. He just has the kind of life I’d want to live.

  6. I don’t even know how I came up with this story idea. I was taking a break from my Fantasy Work In Progress and I needed to write a story badly. My brain was doing that thing where the story was playing like a movie in my head. My laptop was right next to me and from there it was “what if?”

  7. I wrote the 3000+ word story in one sitting. Fun fact: I write all my short stories in one sitting. I do not even get up. It feels like, if you break concentration you lose it. Not everything, but you lose a vital piece of information. I’m sure that if I stood up at the last minute to answer my mom’s call, I wouldn’t have found out the secret power that Simi Grey had or that Simi Grey wasn’t even his real name.

  8. This is my dream: I want Simi Grey to be a whole franchise. I want the movies, the merch, even a theme park. I feel like a lot could really come out from this and I’m going to give everything I’ve got to see it happen. I even secretly wish it could be used as school literature. This is the kind of thing I always wanted to read at school.

  9. I’m still figuring out the whole “equation as spells” thing. It’s pretty cool. And it makes more sense. Instead of saying, “abracadabra, water!” You just write the equations out or in your head (depends on your skill). For example: H + O2 = H2O. Ta da. Water. And since everything is pretty much made up of atoms, it could work.

  10. The book probably won’t be ready for publication until next year. If I’m really dedicated, I’ll probably be done with the first draft in two weeks. But I’m not really a dedicated person. But. . .there will be short stories, character backstories, maps, and prequels as I go along. All in favour of next year?

If you’re as excited as I am, scream, “yessssss!” in the comments.
